I was recently invited to the launch of one of Leeds' newest bars "Slate NQ" which has taken over the old Lounge Bar and Grill on Merrion Street. Here's what I wore and got up to at the event - including some live magic!
What I wore
I still don't know how he did them, and it wasn't just the prosecco either.
What I wore
I went pretty casual to the night, layering a simple beige knit top over a striped skirt and adding a pair of strappy heels (which I may have just bought again in 2 different colours oops - they're so comfy though!). For the accessories I went for a gold statement necklace and a chunky gold bracelet, along with a cute brown fringe bag.
Knit Top - £17.99 New Look / Brown Fringe Bag - £35 Topshop / Striped Skirt - £20 Miss selfridge (now on sale for £10) / Statement Necklace - New Look / Stone Contrast Cross Strap Heels - £22.99 New Look
The Launch Night - Prosecco, Pizza & Magic
The night started off just right with a lovely glass of prosecco and delicious slices of pizza being handed out for us to try, whilst getting to hang out and catch up with some of my fave blogger babes. I managed to get a few shots of the bar area which is pretty lovely - I do really like the industrial hanging lightbulb style. They also had plenty of pool tables round the other side, but I wasn't about to start pretending I could play ha!
We went for a bit of an explore and ended up outside in the lovely beer garden. Such a great place for a drink in the sunshine with friends, definitely one to remember when you're looking for somewhere to go al fresco in Leeds.
When outside we bumped into Leeds' very own Oliver Parker who was about to woo us with his awesome magic tricks! I won't spoilt them all for you incase you seem him yourself (which you should!) but some of my favourites included when he ripped up a signed Slate business card into four pieces then after a rub of a pen it was stuck together again (but in a random order?), and when he made a wedge of cards disappear from inside someones closed hands without touching them, turning them into a see-through plastic block?! He also got fellow blogger Dei to sign her name on a card and put it in her mouth whilst he did the same, then without touching or anything managed to swap the cards so that when she pulled the one out of her mouth it had his signature on and vice versa!
I still don't know how he did them, and it wasn't just the prosecco either.
After a few hours we'd worked up a bit of an appetite and decided to head out for some tea. It took us about all of 10 seconds to decide on Thai food so we headed down to Leeds' newest Thai addition "Zaap" which was conveniently just down the road from Slate at the bottom of the beautiful Grand Arcade.
It was definitely a good call! The place was decorated really cool inside, literally felt like we were stepping into a busy street food market. And more importantly, the food was top too! I had noodles with chicken, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. It's not surprising the food was decent though as it's owned by the same people behind Sukhothia - already a Leeds Thai fave of mine. :) I was also really impressed by the price, maybe this is just the Yorkshire in me but I always think things taste better when you're eating them at a bargain price!
Sass from What Sass Says & Dei from Sunny Dei
And that's all from tonight! Thanks for reading, I would definitely recommend checking Slate Bar out for a few drinks, especially to take advantage of their beer garden with the sunny weather (hopefully) coming up. It's a great addition to an area of Leeds which is already getting better and better all the time with new bars popping up around Merrion Street creating a cool northern quarter of Leeds.
Have you visited yet? Where's your favourite place to go down that end of town? Would love to know your thoughts.
