Event | Rum Shack Leeds Launch Party

Leeds' Newest Pop Up Bar - Rum Shack Leeds
Yep, thats right, yet another bar has opened its doors in Leeds (we're getting more spoilt for choice every week!), this time in the form of the Jamaican inspired "Rum Shack". The colourful pop up bar will be open for 12 weeks before it re-invents itself into a brand new bar, as part of the awesome Hedonist Project

Sandwiched in-between the already much loved Belgrave Music Hall and Sandinista bar, it's pretty hard to miss the uniquely designed shack with it's bright Caribbean inspired decor complete with deck chairs outside, bringing the beach vibes to Leeds and letting everyone know summer has definitely arrived!

The rum flowed all evening as we were treated with some of their truly tasty refreshing cocktails, my favourite being the "Rum Punch" - the name being very fitting as by drink two I was already ready to hug everyone in true tipsy girl fashion! They also had delicious strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas (which I can't even write without singing the song....) all available for £6 a pop.

There was a great buzz about the night and I got to catch up with some absolutely lovely blogger babes including Bee from Queenbeady, Laura from A Forte For Fashion, Sammi from Little Blonde Life and Laura from Laura Loves Lippy. To say we had a good laugh is an understatement and I think we all agreed another meet up was in order soon. You know you're amongst bloggers when someone gets the selfie stick out, it's all good fun!

It really was a brill night and I have to say a huuuge thank you to the Rum Shack and Pink Gorilla for inviting us along. If you wan't to experience this amaze place for yourself then you better be quick, as it's only around for a few months before it changes into the next bar. Head down to the Shack soon for a taste of summer!

Event | Slate Bar Launch Party Leeds

I was recently invited to the launch of one of Leeds' newest bars "Slate NQ" which has taken over the old Lounge Bar and Grill on Merrion Street. Here's what I wore and got up to at the event - including some live magic!

What I wore
I went pretty casual to the night, layering a simple beige knit top over a striped skirt and adding a pair of strappy heels (which I may have just bought again in 2 different colours oops - they're so comfy though!). For the accessories I went for a gold statement necklace and a chunky gold bracelet, along with a cute brown fringe bag.

Knit Top - £17.99 New Look / Brown Fringe Bag - £35 Topshop / Striped Skirt - £20 Miss selfridge (now on sale for £10) / Statement Necklace - New Look / Stone Contrast Cross Strap Heels - £22.99 New Look

The Launch Night - Prosecco, Pizza & Magic

The night started off just right with a lovely glass of prosecco and delicious slices of pizza being handed out for us to try, whilst getting to hang out and catch up with some of my fave blogger babes. I managed to get a few shots of the bar area which is pretty lovely - I do really like the industrial hanging lightbulb style. They also had plenty of pool tables round the other side, but I wasn't about to start pretending I could play ha!

We went for a bit of an explore and ended up outside in the lovely beer garden. Such a great place for a drink in the sunshine with friends, definitely one to remember when you're looking for somewhere to go al fresco in Leeds.

When outside we bumped into Leeds' very own Oliver Parker who was about to woo us with his awesome magic tricks! I won't spoilt them all for you incase you seem him yourself (which you should!) but some of my favourites included when he ripped up a signed Slate business card into four pieces then after a rub of a pen it was stuck together again (but in a random order?), and when he made a wedge of cards disappear from inside someones closed hands without touching them, turning them into a see-through plastic block?! He also got fellow blogger Dei to sign her name on a card and put it in her mouth whilst he did the same, then without touching or anything managed to swap the cards so that when she pulled the one out of her mouth it had his signature on and vice versa!

I still don't know how he did them, and it wasn't just the prosecco either.

After a few hours we'd worked up a bit of an appetite and decided to head out for some tea. It took us about all of 10 seconds to decide on Thai food so we headed down to Leeds' newest Thai addition "Zaap" which was conveniently just down the road from Slate at the bottom of the beautiful Grand Arcade.

It was definitely a good call! The place was decorated really cool inside, literally felt like we were stepping into a busy street food market. And more importantly, the food was top too! I had noodles with chicken, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. It's not surprising the food was decent though as it's owned by the same people behind Sukhothia - already a Leeds Thai fave of mine. :) I was also really impressed by the price, maybe this is just the Yorkshire in me but I always think things taste better when you're eating them at a bargain price!

Sass from What Sass Says & Dei from Sunny Dei

And that's all from tonight! Thanks for reading, I would definitely recommend checking Slate Bar out for a few drinks, especially to take advantage of their beer garden with the sunny weather (hopefully) coming up. It's a great addition to an area of Leeds which is already getting better and better all the time with new bars popping up around Merrion Street creating a cool northern quarter of Leeds.

Have you visited yet? Where's your favourite place to go down that end of town? Would love to know your thoughts.

Fashion | 3 Bargain Items To Add To Your Summer Wardrobe

So as typical of British weather, we seem to have gone from the chilly rainy days and jumped straight into summer sunshine in a matter of a few short weeks! I'm always very happy to see the sun (and hope that my ghost like skin picks up a bit of colour!) but if you're anything like me you might not have fully transitioned your wardrobe into summer yet either.

To give you some ideas for your own summer wardrobe I thought I'd share with you 3 lovely bargain items that I recently picked up and how I styled them into a sunshine ready look. Hope you enjoy!

Going boho, 3 summer styles that won't break the bank

For me summer style means getting to wear pretty flowy maxi dresses and lots of boho prints, whilst making sure the clothes are light and comfortable. The 3 pieces I have to share with you today cover all those things, as well as being very purse friendly!

Look 1: The Boohoo Paisley Maxi Skirt - £15

Paisley Maxi Skirt - £15 Boohoo / White Top - £6 Primark / Black Satchel Bag - New Look / Layered Necklace - £7.99 New Look / Heeled Black Sandals - £10 Primark / Sunnies - Topshop

I decided to go monochrome when styling this look, as there's just something so chic about black and white. I kept the top simple as there is so much adorable detail on the skirt, and I accessorised with a layered gold and black necklace to bring the look together. The heeled Primark sandals are another bargain pick I recently picked up (and probably need to stop wearing to death!) but they're just so comfy and not too high making them perfect for summer strolling. :)

Look 2: New Look Floral Tropical Print Maxi Dress - £19.99

Tropical Print Maxi Dress - New Look £19.99 / Khaki Textured Heels - New Look £19.99 / Black Satchel Bag - New Look / Gold Tribal Necklace - £7.99 New Look / Brown Suede Jacket - Mango

When I recently took this dress out for a spin I seemed to get inundated with "ooo someones ready for summer" comments - so it's definitely a bold and bright summer winner! I kept with the green colour theme and styled it with a pretty pair of Khaki green heels. I wear heels everyday anyway (ok apart from the gym!) but I would say if you're short like me (5'3) then you probably couldn't get away with wearing this dress with flats as it is quite long and you would proably have an epic walking fail and land on your bum. :o

Look 3: New Look Red Rile Print Tube Skirt - £9.99

Red Tile Print Tube Skirt- New Look £9.99 / Black Crotchet Crop Top - Asos / Gold Tribal Necklace - New Look £7.99 / Suede Black Fringe Bag - £35 Miss Selfridge / Custom Classics Sun Glasses* - Sungod £56 / White Aztec Print Kimono - New Look £27.99

And last but not least is this pretty bright red tile print skirt from (once again!) New Look. I went majorly boho style on this look and teamed it with a crotchet detail black crop top, a tribal print necklace, a white Aztec print kimono and the standard summer fringe bag! I think this look would actually be pretty perfect for a festival - minus the fact I'd probably get my wellies stuck in the mud (again!) and end up turning the kimono a muddy shade!

The glasses I'm sporting were kindly sent to me for review by the lovely people at Sungod. It was actually pretty cool choosing them on the site as you can customise each part of the shades with a selection of colours, and the lenses are even polarised! They're defintely worth taking a look at if you feel like investing in a decent pair of sunnies :) Check out their site here

Ok that's all from me today guys, thanks so much for reading and I will be back much sooner than I was this time!

See you soon,
